LOOK BACK IN ANGER

SCHOOLS TOUR 2008

Our Theatre in Education (TIE) policy is to assist students in their Matura exam study by bringing English-speaking drama directly to their schools.

Our 2008 tour of John Osborne's Look Back in Anger gained extremely favourable reviews (see below).

2008 production photographs will appear shortly.

Some comments on our 2008 production of Look Back in Anger:-

I would like to thank you and your cast for the brilliant
performance. My students found it easy to follow the text as the actors spoke clearly and distinctly. 'Jimmy' (Guy Quartermaine) seemed to be their favourite actor; his performance was really exceptional. We hope you will visit us in 2009 and we'll arrange for the next generation of 4th year students to see it.

Tatjana Sitar, Gimnazija Jesenice.

I would like to thank you for a perfect performance, which, in my opinion, was even better than last year. The actors really did a great job.

Mojca Povsin, Gimnazija Kranj.

Thank you for the unforgettable performance and the feedback session afterwards. My students were thrilled with the play and felt privileged to be able to discuss it with you. I definitely share their enthusiasm. My colleagues and I believe it is a unique, invaluable opportunity to get an insight into the text and we were impressed by the questions our students asked and how they were drawn into the play.

Breda Arnejsek, Gimnazija Poljane, Ljubljana.

Thank you again for your wonderful performance. Best regards to everybody.

Natalija Bracun, Ekonomska sola, Murska Sobota.

I loved the performance. It was wonderful to see such 'real' acting and it gave me a new insight into the play. Guy Quartermaine was fantastic as Jimmy Porter.

A great learning experience.

Donna Osterc, ICS, Slovenia.

In 2007, to assist Matura exam pupils in their study of John Osborne's Look Back in Anger, and with the co-operation of the Osborne Estate, BEST toured an adaptation of the play to Slovene schools. The production was simply staged, focusing on the text - this meant we were able to perform in a location to suit each school - for example in a classroom, gym or theatre.

Performances were followed by a play-based workshop. Through audience/actor inter-action students learnt more about the social and cultural background of this classic work. This exchange with native English speakers also helped students develop their confidence in spoken English.

Every audience member received a programme containing a cast list, author and actors biographies, and a play-based glossary to keep for reference.

BEST's actors visited Slovenia especially for this production and are highly experienced in Theatre in Education having performed to schools and universities in the UK and USA. One of our cast, Gregory Cox, (Colonel Redfern) worked with John Osborne in the 1970's.

''Thank you for your wonderful performance - I'm really pleased my students had the chance to benefit from it.''

Irena Mori, SS Josipa Jurcica, Ivancna Gorica.

''Our students were thrilled to attend the play and the workshop which were invaluable for their complete understanding of the text. We hope to cooperate with you in the coming years.''
